About Us

We are a small, collaborative Managed Service Provider (MSP) in Australia, supporting a range of clients across IT services and cybersecurity. Our internal operations team is building out our data and reporting capabilities, and we are looking for an on-call, highly responsive Power BI Developer who can assist us on an as-needed basis. This is not a full-time or part-time role — instead, we are seeking someone we can call on when required, typically a few hours per month, with occasional bursts of work during new dashboard development cycles. Role Overview We are seeking a Power BI Developer with solid Microsoft SQL skills and a strong ability to understand business processes and translate them into actionable reporting outcomes. The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and comfortable speaking with senior stakeholders to clarify reporting needs. You will help us: Build new dashboards from scratch Improve and update existing dashboards Write SQL queries (and occasional stored procedures) Provide guidance on data modelling best practices Perform light transformation work when needed Maintain and support our Power BI gateway environment All data is sourced from our SQL Server environment — you will not need to integrate directly with third-party MSP tools.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deploy new Power BI dashboards based on business requirements Maintain and enhance existing dashboards, datasets, and underlying queries Write efficient SQL queries to support reporting needs Perform basic data transformation when required Collaborate with our Sales Director and Technical Director to define reporting scope Provide recommendations on data modelling and Power BI best practices Ensure scheduled refreshes work reliably through our on-prem SQL Gateway Accurately communicate timelines and deliverables before starting work Maintain documentation where appropriate Required Technical Skills Strong proficiency with Power BI Intermediate capability in DAX Understanding of data modelling principles (star schema, relationships, optimisation) Solid experience writing SQL queries Experience working with SQL Server environments Ability to troubleshoot Power BI Gateway and refresh issues Bonus / Nice-to-Have Experience (Not required, but we will prioritise applicants who have it.) Experience working with MSP environments Familiarity with: Autotask PSA Datto RMM Compliance Manager IT Glue Understanding of MSP operational workflows (service desk, ticketing, SLAs, asset data) If you have experience with any of the above, please outline it clearly in your application. Availability & Responsiveness This is an on-call / ad-hoc contractor position. We are flexible, but we expect: Responses within 2–3 days Clear communication on timelines before work begins Reliable delivery of agreed milestones We don’t mind if you are busy — we just need transparency and consistency. Work can otherwise be conducted flexibly.
