Job title: Preschool Teacher for Deer Park Teaching and Learning Center Company: Lake County Schools Job description: Position Title: Preschool Teacher for Deer Park Childcare Center (Full-Time) Department: Preschool/Child Care Reports To: Director Location: Deerfield High School Hours: Monday-Friday (8:30am - 5:00pm) QUALIFICATIONS: Requires early childhood teachers to have 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credits from an accredited college or university with six semester or nine quarter hours in courses related directly to child care and/or child development A degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or a related field and experience with young children is preferred. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Preschool Teacher is responsible for developing and implementing all classroom programs and activities along with the Director. The primary focus is providing a safe, nurturing environment where children and their families feel welcomed, accepted, and encouraged to participate. The Preschool teacher will provide a quality early learning experience where the child?s interests and ideas are valued. The Preschool Teacher will investigate, explore, and question alongside the child and assist the child as s/he makes sense of the world in which they live. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:
  • Maintain a classroom climate/community that will benefit the overall healthy growth and development of the child.
  • Create an enriching environment for students to explore, investigate and play.
  • Co-plan and teach lessons that are developmentally appropriate for young children.
  • Maintain communication and professional relationships with co-teachers and staff.
  • Ensure resources are appropriately allocated to achieve goals within the classroom and the center.
  • Ensure the safety needs of the children are met at all times.
  • Actively participate and cultivate positive relationships with parents and the children?s families.
  • Support and cultivate the high school Child Development program when students are in the classroom working with Deer Park children
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Ensure ongoing program excellence within the center and our community.
  • Serve as a resource to parents regarding early childhood education and their child?s individual needs.
  • Collaborate with the Director to develop a personal professional development plan and attain these goals.
  • Participate in Center activities as appropriate.
  • Represent the Center with integrity and professionalism.
  • Abide by policies of the Center.
EDUCATIONAL/PREPARATION QUALIFICATIONS: * Meet DCFS teacher requirements.
  • Knowledge of early childhood education and/or child development
  • Food Handler Training completed within the probationary period.
  • DCFS Mandated Reporter training completed within the probationary period.
  • CPR/First Aid certification completed within the first year of employment.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in listening, engaging, and building rapport with people.
  • Appreciation for details and follow through.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: A moderate degree of physical stamina with occasional lifting of 15-20 pounds. The ability to move freely to various locations. Frequent standing, walking, and bending. Exposure to noise and activity in a school setting.
