Our client, a prominent player in the telecommunications industry, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Network Engineer to join their distributed engineering team. This is a fully remote position, offering the opportunity to shape the future of global network infrastructure from anywhere. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in designing, implementing, and optimizing large-scale, complex telecommunications networks. You will be responsible for driving architectural decisions, ensuring network reliability, performance, and security, and mentoring junior engineers. This role requires a deep understanding of routing, switching, MPLS, SDN/NFV, and cloud networking concepts, coupled with a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation. Responsibilities: Architect, design, and deploy robust, scalable, and highly available telecommunications networks, including core, edge, and access layers. Develop and maintain network standards, best practices, and documentation. Lead troubleshooting efforts for complex network issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing effective solutions. Evaluate and recommend new networking technologies, tools, and vendor solutions to enhance network capabilities and efficiency. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, security, and product development, to ensure seamless network integration and support. Design and implement network security measures to protect against threats and ensure data integrity. Develop and manage network capacity planning and performance monitoring strategies. Lead the implementation of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) solutions. Mentor and guide junior network engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering skill development. Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving security threats in the telecommunications landscape. Qualifications: Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field; equivalent practical experience will be considered. 10+ years of experience in network engineering within the telecommunications sector, with a focus on large-scale network design and operations. Expert-level knowledge of IP networking protocols, including BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, and segment routing. In-depth understanding of switching technologies, VLANs, and network hardware from major vendors (e.g., Cisco, Juniper). Strong experience with SDN/NFV concepts, technologies, and implementation. Familiarity with cloud networking environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). Proficiency in network automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Ansible). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with global teams. Relevant certifications (e.g., CCIE, JNCIE) are highly desirable.
