The New York State Office of Mental Health is seeking a Data Analyst 1 to utilize technical and analytical skills to evaluate government programs and assess their effectiveness. The role involves researching data sources, analyzing and interpreting data, and presenting findings to supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • As a Data Analyst 1, you will use your technical and analytical skills to evaluate a range of government programs and program areas including policy, procedures, operations, objectives and cost effectiveness to determine actual or potential risk
  • You will research, identify, and evaluate data sources to determine reliability or usability limitations, and collect, manipulate, analyze, and interpret data, and present results to supervision, covering conclusions and recommendations based on evaluations made

Skills

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • A bachelor's degree in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field AND one (1) year of experience in Data Visualization, and Statistical Models and Data Mining tools
  • A master's degree or higher in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • A bachelor's degree in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field AND two (2) year of experience in Data Visualization, and Statistical Models and Data Mining tools
  • A master's degree in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field AND one (1) year of experience in Data Visualization, and Statistical Models and Data Mining tools
  • A Ph.D. in Data or Computer Science, Informatics, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Proficient at conducting data processing, data formatting, and data analysis
  • Have computer programming experience (e.g., R, Python, Java, C++)
  • Strong critical thinking and professional judgement
  • Strong analytical thinker with excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in a dynamic team environment
