Key Responsibilities

  • Initiate and manage prior authorization requests for medical procedures, medications, and durable medical equipment as per physician orders.
  • Liaise effectively with insurance companies, physician offices, and patients to ensure timely and accurate authorization approvals.
  • Thoroughly review patient medical records to gather necessary clinical documentation required for authorization submissions.
  • Track and document all authorization submissions, approvals, denials, and appeals within the designated electronic systems.
  • Proactively follow up on pending authorizations, addressing any issues or rejections promptly to minimize delays in patient care.
  • Communicate authorization statuses clearly and professionally to healthcare providers and patients.
  • Stay current with payer-specific requirements, medical policy updates, and industry regulations affecting prior authorizations.
  • Identify and escalate complex authorization issues or consistent payer denials to appropriate management for resolution.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information in compliance with HIPAA and other relevant regulations. Required Skills
  • Proven experience as a Prior Authorization Specialist in a healthcare setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of various insurance plans (commercial, Medicare, Medicaid) and their prior authorization processes.
  • Excellent understanding of medical terminology, CPT, ICD-10 codes, and healthcare claim processes.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a professional demeanor.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a remote environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) systems and authorization tracking software.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field.
  • Certification in Medical Billing and Coding (e.g., CPC, COC, CPMA).
  • Familiarity with UK specific healthcare authorization processes if applicable.
