Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and charismatic Long-term Substitute General Music and Choral Teacher to join our team at Highland Middle School. As a key member of our faculty, you will be responsible for developing and implementing engaging music programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our students. Key Responsibilities

  • Teaching and Instruction: Develop and deliver comprehensive music programs that include music appreciation, harmony, and explorations in music, as well as instrumental and choral music instruction.
  • Classroom Management: Create a positive and productive learning environment that promotes student engagement, motivation, and respect for others.
  • Lesson Planning: Design and implement lesson plans that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students, utilizing a variety of teaching methods and resources.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Evaluate student progress and performance, providing constructive feedback and guidance to help students achieve their full potential.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Communicate effectively with parents, school counselors, and other faculty members to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Professional Development: Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay current with best practices in music education and to continuously improve teaching skills and knowledge.

Essential Qualifications

  • Professional Educator License (PEL): Current PEL with endorsements in music and middle school education.
  • Music Education Experience: Proven experience in teaching music, preferably in a middle school setting.
  • Content Knowledge: Strong knowledge of music theory, history, and appreciation, as well as expertise in instrumental and choral music instruction.
  • Classroom Management Skills: Ability to create a positive and respectful learning environment, with excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Music Education: Advanced degree in music education or a related field.
  • Experience with Diverse Student Populations: Experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds, with a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Technology Integration: Familiarity with music technology and software, with the ability to integrate technology into music instruction.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Experience with leadership and collaboration, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and contribute to a positive school culture.
