[Remote] Senior Power Systems Engineering Consultant – Energy Sector (Transmission Planning)

Leap29 is a consultancy firm expanding its presence in the Energy sector, seeking a Power Systems Engineering Consultant to join their U.S. Power Systems team. This role focuses on advanced transmission and grid studies, delivering data-driven insights to support system planning and operational decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct steady-state, dynamic, and short-circuit studies to assess system performance, renewable integration, and transmission reliability
  • Perform power flow, transient stability, voltage, and contingency analyses using industry-standard tools such as PSS®E, PSLF, PSCAD, EMTP/ATP, ETAP, SKM, or PROMOD
  • Evaluate generator and load interconnection requests, transmission reinforcements, and congestion management scenarios in alignment with applicable regional and national standards
  • Develop, document, and maintain engineering methodologies, assumptions, and models to ensure accuracy, transparency, and repeatability
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to define study scopes, objectives, and deliverables
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations
  • Support the development of internal tools and analytical frameworks to improve efficiency and consistency of studies
  • Stay current with regulatory developments, system operator practices, and emerging grid technologies, including advanced inverters, energy storage integration, and grid-forming controls

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in transmission planning, system operations, or power systems consulting
  • Demonstrated expertise in steady-state and dynamic simulations, system impact studies, and grid reliability analysis
  • Strong proficiency with industry-standard power system modeling software
  • Familiarity with U.S. power markets and ISOs, including PJM, ERCOT, MISO, WECC, SPP, and CAISO
  • Working knowledge of NERC and FERC standards and U.S. transmission planning processes
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly summarize complex technical analyses
  • Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with distributed, multidisciplinary teams
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for client meetings and project workshops
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in one or more U.S. states (multi-state licensure preferred)
  • Experience supporting the launch or growth of an engineering office or technical practice
  • Familiarity with international collaboration and cross-office project delivery
