Description: Position Title: Grade 5-6 Math or English Tutor (remote) Reports To: Director of Teaching and Learning Salary: $15/hour Organization Overview Steppingstone is a not-for-profit organization that develops and implements programs that prepare students from historically marginalized communities for educational opportunities that lead to college success. Steppingstone is seeking tutors for the Steppingstone Scholars Program, which prepares 5th-7th grade students from public, charter, and parochial schools in Boston to attend middle and high schools that provide a path to college. Once Scholars complete the Steppingstone Scholars Program, Steppingstone supports them in their academic and social development throughout middle and high school, and continues to support them through college to ensure their success and graduation. Position Summary During the academic year, Steppingstone provides after school programming to 5th and 6th grade students on Wednesdays and Saturdays. During the 2024-2025 academic year, we are seeking tutors to assist in our math and English classes on Wednesdays, which will take place remotely via Zoom. Candidates must be able to commit to at least one full semester (fall semester, spring semester, or both). Schedule • Tutor Orientation: Sept 18 from 4:30-6:30 pm • Class Schedule: Fall Session: Sept 25-Dec 11 • Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 pm (remote via Zoom) • Class Schedule, Spring Session: Jan 15-April 9 • Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 pm (remote via Zoom) Responsibilities • Assist English or Math teacher in supervising zoom classrooms, including logistics (entrance, attendance, etc.), working with students in breakout rooms, answering questions, etc. • Provide academic support, typically in small groups within breakout rooms • Support in resolving tech issues which may arise for Scholars • Assist in subbing for Math and English classes as needed. All curriculum and materials will be provided. Requirements: Qualifications • Demonstrates commitment to educational equity and college access • Demonstrates competency with middle school students • Demonstrates ability to be flexible and respond appropriately in a fast paced environment • Excellent cross-cultural sensitivity and experience working with diverse populations • Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail • Excellent computer skills (experience with Zoom, Google Classroom, and Google Apps preferred) COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement As a condition of employment, all Steppingstone employees, including full-time, part-time, temporary and contract employees, and interns, must be up to date on their COVID-19 vaccines (fully vaccinated and boosted). To be considered up to date, individuals must have received two doses of the approved Pfizer/Moderna COVID-19 vaccine or single dose of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine, and remain up to date with all boosters recommended by the CDC prior to the finalization of the hiring process. Candidates who are offered the position will be given details about how to demonstrate receipt of vaccination.
