Job title: Specialized Health Paraprofessional - 2 Positions Available Company: The Grosse Pointe Public School System Job description : Specialized Health Paraprofessionals perform various tasks in assisting with the physical and educational needs of the students. Specialized Health Paraprofessionals may be asked to work in severely handicapped classrooms with individual students. JOB SUMMARY The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here. Perform specialized physical health care services for students including suctioning, blood sugar testing, medication administration, drip and tube feeding administration, changing diapers and other specialized services; operate specialized medical equipment and instruments in the assessment and treatment of individuals. Respond to emergencies, evaluate condition of students, and provide health instruction and care as needed. Provides basic instructional assistance to the student in the classroom or on field trips Works with the students individually or in small groups, tutoring, and reinforcing lesson plans Assists the teacher in maintaining an attractive and stimulating classroom and in responding to the personal needs of the children Assists teachers with duties related to special education, including calling parents regarding meetings, obtaining information from the students? confidential files, making copies of transcripts, making copies of schedules and finding out about their attendance Instills personal hygiene, good grooming and manners Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teacher Performs other related duties as required QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate's Degree or higher or Workkey's Proficiency Certificate for Teacher's Assistants required. Must have met a rigorous standard of quality and can demonstrate (through a formal State or local academic assessment) knowledge of the ability to assist in instructing, as appropriate. Knowledge of the special education program Take direction from the School Nurse regarding health care procedures Take direction from the Director of Special Education Ability to operate modern office equipment, personal computers and related software Ability to work effectively with students Ability to work cooperatively with teachers Ability to perform simple clerical work Understand and follow oral and written instructions TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: $16.24-$19.60/hr, full time-school year position APPLICATION PROCEDURE Interested candidates should complete the online application and attach cover letter and resume.
